James H. Johnson, PhD, GCM, Chairman
As co-founder of the $12M Home Care Assistance operation in Palo Alto, CA that has served as the prototype for our franchise model, Jim has in-depth, groundbreaking knowledge of how to build a successful home care company. He is a serial entrepreneur with over 40 years of business development experience as well as the author of ten books and more than 100 scientific papers. Jim has been profiled in major print publications including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. A former university professor and department chair at a number of prestigious universities, Jim received his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Minnesota.
Kathy N. Johnson, PhD, CMC, Chief Executive Officer
As a certified care manager and clinical psychologist, Kathy ensures that our client service model is the best in the business. Actively involved in the day to day operations of Home Care Assistance, Kathy is a trusted and recognized leader in the senior care industry and has garnered extensive media coverage. Along with Jim, she launched the $12M pilot office that turned the traditional home care agency model on its head. She is co-author of Happy to 102: The Best Kept Secrets to a Long and Happy Life (June 2009), The Handbook on Live-in Care: A Guide for Caregivers (August 2011), From Hospital to Home Care: A Step-by-Step Guide to Providing Care for Patients Post-Hospitalization (January 2012). Kathy holds a Doctorate in Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Lily Sarafan, President and Chief Operating Officer
Lily Sarafan is a leading advocate on senior care, healthy longevity and aging in place. She passionately drives and advances the mission of changing the way the world ages. As President of Home Care Assistance, Lily has led the Company's expansion across North America and oversees day-to-day operations including identity and strategy, special initiatives, expansion and business development. Lily has been featured by over 100 media outlets ranging from ABC to Smart Money to Google’s YouTube Channel. She is also co-author of Happy to 102: The Best Kept Secrets to a Long and Happy Life (June 2009), The Handbook on Live-in Care: A Guide for Caregivers (August 2011), From Hospital to Home Care: A Step-by-Step Guide to Providing Care for Patients Post-Hospitalization (January 2012). Lily received Masters (Management Science and Engineering) and Bachelors degrees from Stanford University.
Chen Xie, Vice President of Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer
Chen is actively involved in refining the operations and business plan that differentiate Home Care Assistance from every other company in the industry. Chen joined Home Care Assistance from McKinsey and Company, where he focused on healthcare management and strategy. At McKinsey, Chen had advised senior executive in multiple Fortune 500 companies and top 10 healthcare companies in strategy, finance, operations, and investment strategy. Prior to McKinsey, Chen received his degree in Economics and Psychology with High Honors from Harvard University.
Barbara Schuh, Vice President of Franchise Development
Barbara works with our franchise owners from day one during training, on-site support and regular conference calls to ensure their client care, employee care, operations and marketing are as efficient and successful as possible. Barbara has over 20 years of home care operations and management experience, having owned, operated and sold a multi-million dollar home care agency. A well-known geriatric care management and senior care expert, Barbara is a member of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers. Barbara holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Psychology as was honored as Humanitarian of the Year by the John Muir Foundation.
Russell Gesher, Director of Network Operations
As Director of Network Operations, Russell works on significant projects that effect the operation of our entire network. Having joined us with over 15 years of experience in operations management and franchise development, Russell is actively involved in the areas of franchise support, operations training and software development. Russell had previously served as Vice President of Operations for a retail printer cartridge franchise.
Janine Calcote, Director of Franchise Development.
Janine works with our franchise owners for on-site support and regular conference calls to ensure their client care, employee care, operations and marketing are as efficient and successful as possible. Janine has over 15 years of experience in the franchise and staffing field and previously served as Vice President in Franchise Operations for a nationwide staffing company.
